When you have ordered a home inspection you want to make sure that the inspector pays close attention to the roof. The roof is what keeps water out of the house so it is especially important. Remember, the inspection of the roof also includes the drainage system (gutters), flashing, skylights and chimneys. Each of these is important. When speaking with the inspector ask him or her if the chimney was examined for a build up of turpentine. Turpentine build up can occur if pine wood has been burned in the fireplace. Always make sure that your inspector is licensed if your state mandates licensing for home inspectors.
