Since you're probably not a professional home inspector, you might wonder how you can tell if your home inspector is doing a good job. That's a fair question. Here's some help. Ask questions. For example, it is a standard feature of a home inspection for the home inspector to inspect the plumbing. Ask the inspector how he determined that the drainage was or was not satisfactory at some point in the house. Ask him if he checked the hot water heater to determine its condition. If there are fuel storage systems such as propane tanks for hot water heaters, ask the home inspector if a thorough inspection was made of the fuel storage tanks. You can't ask every question, but you can ask enough to satisfy yourself that you received a good inspection.
