When your home inspector completes his inspection make sure that you receive a checklist indicating any possible deficiencies discovered by the inspection. Even if the inspection uncovered no significant problems you can still question the inspector about parts of the inspection.

For example a thorough home inspection of the heating system covers much more than the heating unit itself. The inspection should cover the venting system, flues, chimneys and fuel storage tanks if any are present. Ask your home inspector about the condition of the vents and flues. You should receive a detailed answer about their condition. If you don't, then you can begin to worry about how thorough was your inspection.
