One of the best protections you can have when hiring a home inspector is to make sure that he or she is a member of a professional organization. There are at least six professional inspector organizations in the United States. They are the American Society of Home Inspectors, the Housing Inspection Foundation, the National Association of Home Inspectors, the American Inspectors Society, the American Association of Home Inspectors and in some states the Southern Council of Professional Building Inspectors. When considering a home inspector inquire as to whether he or she belongs to one of the professional organizations representing their industry. Professional organizations are vehicles providing certification, training and most require that inspectors subscribe to a code of ethics. These are protections that can help to insure that your home inspection experience is a satisfactory one.
