Try to interview at least three home inspectors. It doesn't have to be an in person interview, it can be just a short telephone conversation. One of the things you should ask for is references. And check the references. Make sure you inquire about licenses if required in your state. Question whether the inspector has insurance to cover errors and omissions. This could give you recourse through the courts in case the inspector failed to discover a major discrepancy in the house that will cost you a lot of money to repair.
